Lauryn Hill - I Find it Hard To Say (Rebel)
To anyone who says that Lauryn Hill was “collapsing” while recording her Unplugged album, I say, the people in that room, while Lauryn was blessing them with her voice, in all of its bursting and cracked glory, witnessed her absolute, pure idealism and clarity. They sat watch over the creation of one of the most important albums of our time. My students and I once listened to this song in the classroom, while we read and grappled with Assata’s autobiography, and it meant everything.
